This is a place to post repower projects and best practices when swapping engines from OEM to Service master spec.

Please do your research and don't make assumptions. These results are from "in-the-field" swaps and require technical knowledge to complete.

CH730-0104 on a cub cadet.

Replacement with a CH730-0169 as it has a matching crank shaft and air cleaner. Unfortunately its closure plate mounts are different so the PTO clutch holder will need to be modified or moved. It also requires reuse of the old flywheel PTO adapter onto the new engine. The wire harness is also different so use of the RP1 would help modify the wiring. This is a #6 difficulty for replacement by a tech.

The Kohler CH730-0169 is a commercial-grade, horizontal-shaft internal combustion engine that is part of the Kohler Command PRO series. It's specifically a V-Twin, air-cooled, 4-cycle gasoline engine primarily designed as a replacement engine, most notably for John Deere equipment.

i like the details about the Charging system.
i feel that could be easily over looked, but is very important to proper operation of the unit.

Ch620-3076 superseded to PA-CH620-3090 NLA

This engine does not have a direct fit up.

The wiring can be adapted with the RP1 repower kit but to have the same stator output the old stator would need to be swapped and a larger charge wire added so the amperage back to the battery won't melt the smaller wire that is standard on this unit.

--RP1 + stator /Regulator/ charge wire swap--

CAUTION! Because of the technical complications this swap of the stator should not be done by anyone but a trained technician.

CH640-3126 is the recommended engine for this swap:
